Beaujolais Nouveau at Bastille Café & Bar
Mon, 11/03/2014
For many decades, just past midnight on the third Thursday in each November, little villages all over the Beaujolais region in eastern France have come to life, hustling to get their many cases of Beaujolais Nouveau to Paris for the annual celebration of the young wine. Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrive! On Thursday, November 20, Bastille Café & Bar will be celebrating along with the rest of the world, toasting to the wonderful young wine!
Bastille will be pouring Beaujolais Nouveau for $3/taste, $6/glass, and $20/carafe. Wine director James Lechner and head sommelier Kristen Young have chosen some outstanding examples of the wine that really showcase the vibrancy of the Gamay grape. They’ve also selected some additional wines from the Beaujolais region that provide great contrast to the Nouveau and demonstrate the diversity of wines the region produces. The ten heralded villages in the northern part of Beaujolais, known as the “Cru,” will be represented, with surprisingly complex examples from each village. Wine flights that highlight these differences will be available—and all the wines will be offered individually as a 2.5 oz taste, 5 oz. glass, 500ml carafe, or 750ml bottle.
Chef Jason Stoneburner will be putting together some accompanying food specials as well, like charcuterie, gougères, and other Nouveau-inspired plates.
Join Bastille to celebrate the world’s favorite young wine!
Opened in June of 2009 and housed in an historic 1920’s building in Seattle’s Old Ballard neighborhood, Bastille Café & Bar is a bustling homage to a Parisian brasserie. Owners Deming Maclise and James Weimann scoured Paris flea markets and local salvage stores for vintage accessories to create a truly authentic feel. From the white subway tiles, antique mirrors, and Paris Metro clock to the zinc-topped bar and stunning crystal chandelier that takes center stage in the Back Bar; they’ve truly hit the mark. Chef Jason Stoneburner creates French focused cuisine inspired by the abundance of seasonal product found locally---and it doesn’t get any more local than the restaurants 4500-square-foot organic rooftop garden. The wine list is French focused with a smattering of NW wines and the bar offers an extensive collection of absinthe. Bastille is open 4:30pm to 12am Sunday through Wednesday and until 2am Thursday through Saturday. Dinner is served from 5:30pm to 10pm Sunday thru Thursday and until 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Brunch is served Sunday from 10am – 3pm. Happy Hour is daily from 4:30pm – 6pm and from 10pm to 12am Sunday thru Thursday. Bastille is available for private events.
