Armed burglars leave message for “Tommy”
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Nov.4 police received a report of a home invasion robbery involving two masked suspects with guns. When police arrived at the residence on the 9000 block of 8 Ave. S.W. the victims reported that the suspects had fled eastbound through a nearby alleyway. An area search with K-9 units and air support yielded negative results.
The two female victims explained to the officers that they had been in the basement of the home doing crafts when they heard a loud banging from upstairs. Going to investigate the noise the two victims ran into two masked men with guns in the hallway. One of the suspects told the women “I’m not going to harm you; we are just here for the weed” while the other suspect gathered items from numerous rooms into a bag. The victims tried to explain to the suspects that they had no idea what “weed” they were talking about and that they had the wrong house.
Once the suspects had gathered up numerous electronics and were heading outside they told the victims to “tell Tommy the debt is settled and we are even now”. This only further confused the victims as neither of them knows a “Tommy”. It is currently believed that “Tommy” was a previous home owner from years before.
The suspects are described as both being black males in their mid to late 20’s. One of the suspects was approximately 6’4 and had a slim build. The other suspect is described as standing about 5’7 with a stocky frame. Both wore masks that covered their faces from the nose down.
At the time of this writing the suspects remain at large.
Parking lot brawl
On Nov. 1 in the parking lot of a gym on the 4500 block of 36 Ave. S.W. a case of road rage turned into an all-out brawl between two “gym rats”. Police arrived long after the fight had finished and found the two men separated and cooling off. Both men were cut and bleeding from their head and hands.
According to both men, who had never met each other before this incident, a yelling argument began after they had both parked and gotten out of their cars and one accused the other of cutting them off at the entrance to the lot.
The accounts differ at who threw the first punch. The fight quickly escalated to both patrons punching and kicking each other with one man having his head slammed into the cement numerous times. After wrestling and fighting on the cement both parties received severe gashes, bruises, and scratches on their arms and faces.
While the accounts were being given to the police one of the men began to show signs of serious head trauma and was quickly taken to a nearby hospital by his wife. Since there were no independent witnesses and neither men could agree on who threw the first punch no charges were pressed on either fighter.
