Seattle School Board elects new officers

The Board of Directors for Seattle Public Schools tonight elected the following new officers:
Sherry Carr - President
Sharon Peaslee – Vice President
Marty McLaren – Member at Large
New officers assume duties immediately and serve their in their roles through the 2015 calendar year.
The board voted unanimously to elect Director Carr for the role of president, Director Peaslee for the role of vice president and Director McLaren to retain her role as Member-at-Large.
As Board President, Carr will preside at all Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings and sign all papers and documents as required by law or as authorized by the action of the Board. She will also serve as the Board spokesperson. In addition, Carr will be responsible for appointing committee chairs, to be announced in January.
“I appreciate your support and look forward to serving you in the coming year,” said Board President Sherry Carr.
Sharon Peaslee, the newly-elected Vice President, will serve on the Executive Committee and preside at Board meetings in Carr’s absence.
As Member-at-Large, McLaren shall serve on the Executive Committee with the President and Vice President and shall preside at Board meetings in the absence of the President and Vice President.
The officers are elected for one-year terms and serve as the Executive Committee of the Board. The Executive Committee provides:
■ Leadership for the Board in the areas of government relations with national, state and local agencies
■ Coordination of the Superintendent evaluation
■ Development of the Board’s annual work plans, agendas and schedules
■ A sounding board for the Superintendent
