Loco for Four Loko
On Aug. 8 a very thirsty suspect damaged goods and assaulted a store manager at a convenience store located on the 4800 block of Erskine WY S.W. Initially the suspect was described to dispatchers as a Pacific Islander and later revealed to be a light skinned black male. When officers first arrived at the scene they spotted the suspect walking across the parking lot but decided not to detain him until they had a positive ID.
The clerks in the store explained that at about 2 a.m. the suspect walked into the store and began stuffing his pockets with cans of Four Loko beverages. When the clerk and manager confronted him about it the suspect emptied his jacket and walked to the back of the store where boxes of unopened product were stacked. The suspect grabbed one of the products, a box of wine, and attempted to leave the store with it.
The manager reached out and grabbed the box of wine which initiated a “tug-of-war”. Finally the box broke and the suspect ran out the door.
Officers tracked down the suspect in alleyway only blocks away from the store. They arrested him without incident and booked him into the King County Jail on a charge of Theft and Shoplifting.
Metro mugger
On Aug. 10 a woman riding the #60 Metro line to a stop on 5 Ave. S./ S. Cloverdale St. became the victim of an attempted street robbery by another bus passenger. The victim managed to fend the suspect off and call police but suffered minor injuries during the altercation.
The victim explained that she got on the bus at 12 Ave. S./ S. Jackson St. and arrived at her stop on 5th just before 9 a.m. In the back of the bus the victim says she noticed the suspect, a black male with a muscular build in his mid-30’s wearing camouflage pants, sitting alone. When she got off the bus the suspect also got off and followed close behind.
As she approached the intersection at S. Concord St. the suspect made his move. He was now wearing a ski mask with no mouth hole and grabbed her purse without saying a word. They struggled with the purse for a few moments with the victim yelling “get off of me” as loud as she could. The suspect smacked her in the face with an object that he had concealed in his fist (the victim is unsure what it was) and ran away.
While she was on the ground the victim saw the suspect jump into the passenger seat of a car that was idling nearby, a red Honda with stock wheels. The suspect was driven away from the scene by a driver that the victim couldn’t see.
Officers are currently attempting to find the bus that the victim was riding to pull surveillance footage of the suspect. At this time the suspect remains at large.
