Bountiful Textures” presents works in fiber by Fiber 19 artists at Burien Arts Gallery, 826 S.W. 152nd St. in Olde Burien.
In addition, Patricia Galavin exhibits her “heirloom baskets with a contemporary flair” at the Gallery.
Patricia will also teach basket making workshops on Nov. 5 and Nov. 8. Each workshop is five hours from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $40, which includes all materials. Patricia will present more classes in December with the dates to be announced later. Register for any of the workshops at lauriehaslund@gmail.com.
The Gallery also features Artists United artists Janet Price and Marta Creswell. They are both diverse artists who work in several different mediums.
And across the street from the Gallery, fiber artists Sonia Grasvik, Gail Wax and Deb Rychert will be exhibiting their fine-art quilts at Skinperfect, 905 S.W. 152nd St.
The Bountiful Textures exhibit at the two venues opens Nov. 5 and does not close until the day after Christmas.
Meet the many artists at the Opening Reception, Friday, Nov. 6, 5-8 p.m. at the Gallery.
The Fiber 19 artists are an eclectic group of mixed media fiber artists who meet to visit, support, critique and show their art. Among the members are basket makers, quilters, silk painters, tapestry weavers, fabric and fiber sculptors and embroiderers.
In 2008, a variety of forces brought the core members together into the Fiber Arts Certificate Program at the University of Washington. The graduating class numbered 19; hence they claimed the title Fiber 19.
Participating in the Burien Arts Gallery show are Sally Anaya, Mary Auld, Terry Berg, Debra Calkins, Nikki deRelle, Jan Fisher, Kaylin Francis, Barbara Matthews, Liz Pulos, Louise Roby, Joan Schlichting, Deborah Taylor and Rebecca Wachtman.
Sonia Grasvik, who will exhibit at Skinperfect, has enjoyed lecturing and teaching in the Pacific Northwest, where she resides, and more recently in Brazil by invitation. She has had a solo show at the LaConner Quilt & Textile Museum and her work has been displayed in juried national and international exhibits.
Gail Wax, who also will be exhibiting at Skinperfect, owns “Art Quilting Workshops.”
The Burien Arts Gallery is open Wednesday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m. More information at www.burienarts.org or 206-244-7808.
