Road rage on California Ave.

At 5:30 p.m. on Tues., April 19, police received a call from a man who said someone had thrown a pair of pliers in his face.

The victim said he was driving north on the 3000 block of California Ave S.W. and then ended up behind a car that was moving slowly, as if looking for a parking spot. The victim pulled around the car and continued north, but the suspect sped up, pulling alongside the victim at a traffic light and throwing a Leatherman tool through the open passenger side window into the driver’s window of the victim’s car.

The victim was struck in his left ear. When he stepped out of his vehicle, the suspect drove off through a red light, heading north on California Ave. The victim followed to get the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle. Then, he pulled over and called police.

The suspect turned around and pulled behind the victim, trying to intimidate him, but finally gave up and drove away.

Officers searched for vehicle but could not find it.

Burglary during vacation

Officers answered a call at 7 p.m. on Tues., April 19, reporting a burglary at the 8300 block of Fauntleroy Way S.W. The incident occurred sometime over the weekend.

The homeowner said he and his wife had been out of town and when they returned home they saw that the back door of their home had been shattered. Multiple drawers had been emptied in several rooms.

The couple had already started cleaning up the damage, putting items back in their places and boarding up the door making it impossible for the officers to find any usable fingerprints.

The victims were not sure if any items had been stolen but thought that the burglars had taken their laptop.

Possible break-in

At 10 p.m. on Wed., April 20, a mother and her daughter were talking, when they heard a noise coming from a bedroom on the northwest corner of the home. The mother went to check it out and found that a sliding glass window in the room was completely open and that the screen had been removed. There were dirty shoeprints on the carpet. The mother told her daughter to call 911.

Officers quickly arrived and met both women who were waiting outside the front door. The daughter directed the officers to the bedroom, showing them the evidence of an entry. There were no signs of force or property damage. There were no fingerprints and a few valuables, including a watch and wallet on a nightstand, had not been touched.

Taking advantage of an open house

Officers arrived to the 8400 block of 20th Avenue S.W. at 11 a.m. on Thurs., April 21 to investigate a burglary at a vacant house that was up for sale.

The owner had arrived to the home at 9:30 a.m. to find the back door open. There was evidence in the bedroom and bathroom that someone had been living there.

The homeowner said that an open house was held at the property on Sun., April 17 and suggested that the agent may have accidentally left the back door unlocked or that perhaps a person had attended the open house and unlocked a window to slip through later. There were no signs of forced entry. The homeowner was uncertain if anything was missing.
