Multi-talented Vancouver B.C. artist Josh Byer displays his colorful “Faux Fauvism” paintings in June at the Burien Arts Gallery, 826 S.W. 152nd St.
“My technique, Faux Fauvism, attempts to capture the moment immediately before a composition disintegrates into pure abstraction,” Byer explains.
The technique, inspired by Henri Matisse, celebrates elements of Fauvism, Cubism, Pointillism and street art.
The Opening Artist’s Reception for Byer’s exhibit is Friday, June 3, 5-8 p.m. at the Gallery. The exhibit runs June 1-June 25.
Byer’s work has been displayed at the Canadian Fine Arts Gallery in Toronto and the La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles.
In addition, he has been a featured artist or cover artist in numerous publications.
Byer earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and an Ontario Regional Arts Certificate in Visual Arts at Canterbury Regional Arts School.
Besides his visual arts talents, the prolific artist also has earned extensive credits as a screenwriter, director, producer and actor in television, film and games.
His writing career includes stints in public relations, copywriting, journalism and prose.
Also in June at the Burien Arts Gallery, Artists United presents a small works show of affordable art by over 20 local artists. The show will feature a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, collage, photography, mixed media, fiber and colored pencil. All artwork will be less than 12 inches by 12 inches.
The Burien Arts Gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, noon-6 p.m. For more information visit www.burienarts.org or call 206-244-7808.
