The Psychic View – The Benediction Of Genius

With the current madness and turmoil pervading our world, many find themselves in dire need of being uplifted; to experience something which will reawaken us to the beauty and possibilities of life. This may come in myriad forms, serving as a reminder that cause for wonder and gratitude is all around us and abounds.
These reflections began recently upon viewing an audition on ‘America’s Got Talent’ by a thirteen-year-old girl named Laura Bretan. She was lovely, sweet, and very shy, but when she opened her mouth to sing…pure glory was delivered in the form of an operatic aria, no less! Both audience and judges were slack-jawed and were on their feet well before her performance ended. How could a child possess such a mature, astonishing gift? I watched her again and again, and each time was thrilled and moved to tears.
Only a few days later, I saw yet another child genius on ’60 Minutes’…a jazz piano phenomenon…a twelve-year-old from Bali, of all places! His brilliance has already attracted some of the greatest jazz musicians as mentors, and Joey Alexander is already performing in New York to sold-out audiences.
And then, there’s the current hottest ticket on Broadway…’Hamilton’…the work of grown-up genius named Lin-Manuel Miranda. Why a hip-hop composer of Puerto Rican descent would fall under the spell of Alexander Hamilton, American’s first Secretary of the Treasury, seems a something of a paradox, especially since Miranda reports casually picking up a Hamilton bio when looking for something to read on vacation. But inspiration can descend from anywhere and everywhere it seems. And just yesterday, NASA scientists cheered in rapture as their Juno spacecraft, after a five year journey, successfully began its orbit of the planet Jupiter…a first in history and the culmination of so many brilliant minds working in collaboration.
I have always celebrated the accomplishments of the gifted of this world, for they bring not only bliss to my own spirit, but a precious offering to humanity itself. I believe these rarefied persons exist not only to explore their own spectacular talents, but to buoy up the rest of us. Our hearts, our souls, respond in wonder. We need not personally achieve world-wide fame, but that is hardly the point. We each have something worthwhile within us we are meant to unleash. We exist in order to express our talents; if we instead spend time, energy, and effort stifling them, we cannot possibly be true to ourselves.
I’m often asked if child geniuses are ‘proof’ of reincarnation, for how could someone so new to the world possess such astounding abilities. Since I firmly believe that we live many lifetimes, ‘reincarnation’ does indeed offer one ‘explanation’…though other factors surely come into play. But in any event, let the brilliance of their example truly light up our world, reminding that, ultimately, we are all the expression of something so wondrous, mystifying, and overwhelming, that we should, from time to time, ardently reflect upon it…permitting faith in ourselves and the human race to receive a timely restoration.
