Meet acclaimed Alaskan artist on Friday at Burien Arts Gallery
Tue, 08/30/2016
Come meet noted Alaskan painter Sue Kraft on Friday, Sept. 2 at the Burien Arts Gallery. Her Artist’s Reception is from 5-8 p.m. at the Gallery, 826 S.W. 152nd St. in Olde Burien.
Kraft brings her exciting solo show to the Burien Arts Gallery for the month of September.
Sue Kraft’s work has been included in numerous juried art shows as well as solo and group exhibitions. Her work is represented in the permanent collections at the Alaska State Museum, Anchorage Museum, Alaska State Art Bank, Juneau-Douglas City Museum, ARCO Collection, Alaska State Ferry “Fairweather” and many private collections.
Commenting on her Burien exhibit, Kraft explains, “The subject matter for this show is Northwest based—water, trees, birds—in varying degrees of abstraction.
“I take many photographs and often use them as springboard, but what I am after is more the feeling I had about being in a place or about the subject—awe, wonder, humor, excitement, peace etc. Ultimately the painting takes its own course and I follow—the process takes over.”
Also meet Shannan Folino and Liz Simpson on Friday. They will be showing in the Artists United gallery at the Burien Arts Gallery during September. Their work has won awards at many local art shows.
The exhibit runs until Oct. 1. The Burien Arts Gallery is open Wednesday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m. with special hours for this exhibit on Sundays, noon-4 p.m.
Later in September, don’t miss the 8th Annual Highline Classic Jazz Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24, 3-11 p.m. The Burien jazz walk features 21 bands on five stages for $25—about a buck a band. More information at www.highlineclassicjazz.com.
And mark your calendars for October’s exhibit featuring recent paintings by artists Ken DeRoux and Garreth Schuh.
