Burien Actors Theatre announces auditions for the comedy Sex with Strangers, written by Laura Eason, to be performed from Feb. 10 hrough March 5, 2017.

A tour de force for two actors of any race or ethnicity, the play contains one femaie character, age range 37 to 42, and one male character, age range 26 to 31. Actors do not have to be the ages indicated, but must be able to convincingly portray them.

SYNOPSIS: A provocative look at the complexities of relationship, sex and identity—and ambition’s dark side--in our digital era. Olivia is a talented old-school writer whose career never took off. Ethan is wildly successful, a young author whose online blogs of his "sexcapades" are the buzz of the blogosphere. When the two strangers are trapped in a snowed-in retreat, undeniable chemistry ignites.

Performances are at Burien Actors Theatre in Burien from Feb. 10 through March 5 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Rehearsals begin Jan. 2.

The stage directors are Rochelle Flynn and Maggie Larrick, who have co-directed four productions together.

$100 stipend provided.

Auditions are Saturday, Sept. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. Callbacks will be Sunday, Sept. 18 from noon to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Please prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues (serious/comedic) totaling no more than 3 minutes. Please also bring resume and headshot. Callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script.

Character Descriptions/Requirements

Seeking of all races and ethnicities for both roles. Actors do not have to be the ages indicated, but must be able to convincingly portray them.

Olivia: Female, age range 37 to 42. Smart, sexy, outwardly strong but covering some fragility and not a voracious socializer/dater. American with a European flair from many years living abroad. A gifted and passionate, but obscure, old-school writer who loves books and serious literature--not up on the latest blogging and social media trends. Olivia achieved limited literary success with one novel, but her career did not take off, and she has been making a living teaching. Has a new book that she has put her heart into, but is afraid of getting it out into the world for fear of rejection. Was in a long-term relationship with a famous writer, but that is over.

Ethan: Male, age range 26 to 31. Very charismatic, sexy and charming in a bold and boyish way, but with intelligence underneath. A fast talker, used to being the center of attention. From Chicago but has little to no specific accent. A blogger with two wildly successful books pulled from his sex blog about fulfilling his bet with some buddies that he could pick up a new woman every week for a year--he is already working on the screenplay adaptation and a new literary app. While he is comfortable in the role of an arrogant playboy, he longs to win the respect of the literary world with his own writing. Ethan is a huge fan of Olivia's published book, idolizes her, and has tracked her down to the rural B&B where she goes to write.
