Assault suspect leaves rabbit at scene of crime

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of California Ave SW and SW Alaska St. around 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31 to check on a fight. The victim said he was waiting on a bench at a bus stop when the suspect asked for a cigarette. When the victim said he did not have any, the suspect became agitated, cussed and punched him in the face. The suspect ran away before police arrived – but left a rabbit behind. There were two other subjects on the scene, who knew the suspect but refused to identify him other than saying he was about 16 or 17 years old and homeless. They agreed to watch the rabbit until they saw the suspect again. The Fire Department responded and told the victim to get medical attention for a laceration above his left eye. Officers checked the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

Attempted commercial burglary on Marginal Way

A commercial burglary was reported around 9:20 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 30. When officers arrived on the 6900 block of Marginal Way SW, the manager met them and said that surveillance footage showed two men entering the property around 1:40 a.m. and throwing rocks through the front door and adjacent window. The suspects did not actually enter the building. No items were stolen. No fingerprints were located. The manager agreed to provide police with a copy of the surveillance footage for evidence.

Gunshot on Delridge Way SW

Harborview Medical Center’s Emergency Room called for police around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, after a man was admitted with a gunshot wound. The victim explained he was sitting on a bench, around the 4500 block of Delridge Way SW, waiting for a friend to pick him up. A man approached, wearing all black clothing and pointing a gun at him. The victim stood up and raised his hands -- in an effort to calm the situation. Instead, the suspect fired a shot and hit him in the left leg. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect fled on foot. A stranger pulled up and offered the victim a ride to the hospital. Police searched Delridge Way for a crime scene but were unsuccessful in finding any. They collected the victim’s pants with a bullet hole and blood stains as evidence.

Shed burglarized on Marine View Dr.

An officer arrived at the 11200 block of Marine View Dr. SW around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 to investigate a burglary that occurred the night before. The victim had locked sheds on his property, which were located about 350 ft. down a steep bluff and only accessible during a low tide. He rents one shed to a neighbor, who stores kayaks in it. The officer noted that on one shed the handle and door bolt were missing. On the other shed, a vent screen was removed and destroyed. A hammer and gardening shovel were nearby – and the officer collected both tools for fingerprinting. A witness called the officer to say he saw two men coming from the direction of the shed carrying a kayak around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. The victim said two life jackets and a paddle were also missing.
