Hellinger pitching at Gonzaga
West Seattle graduate Sam Hellinger is now a senior right-handed pitcher at Gonzaga University.
Hellinger -- who was drafted by the Seattle Mariners out of high school but opted to play college ball instead -- has appeared in 20 games for the Bulldogs this spring.
Hellinger has a 4-2 record with a 2.72 earned run average over 36.1 innings of work, striking out 20.
Hellinger will be eligible for the draft again in June.
McCullough starting for Ducks
Morgan McCullough, also a West Seattle graduate, is starting at second base for the University of Oregon baseball team as a freshman.
McCullough has played in 39 games as an infielder for the Ducks, hitting .258 (33-for-128) with 17 runs scored, 15 RBI, five doubles and four triples.
McCullough was drafted by the Mariners in the 33rd round out of high school in June 2016, also opting to play college ball.
Rangers recall Keone Kela
Chief Sealth graduate Keone Kela is back with the Texas Rangers after being recalled from the Round Rock Express Class AAA team on April 17.
The right-handed reliever has appeared in eight games since with 10 strikeouts in 8.2 innings pitched. Kela has an 0-1 record with a 4.15 earned run average since his return to the Major League Baseball ranks.
Barnette also a Ranger
Thomas Jefferson graduate Tony Barnette is also a right-handed reliever for the Texas Rangers. He is 0-0, 7.56 in 8.1 innings pitched with seven strikeouts. He has appeared in 11 games for the Rangers since starting off his second season with the team.
Brett still on disabled list
Highline graduate Ryan Brett is still on the disabled list as a second baseman for the Class AAA Durham Bulls of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
Conger now hitting .267
Federal Way native Hank Conger is now hitting .267 (12-for-45) as a catcher for the Reno Aces of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He has four runs scored, 13 RBI, three doubles and one home run for the Class AAA Pacific Coast League team.
Gallagher with Huskies
Kennedy Catholic graduate Maggie Gallagher is playing in a utility role as a freshman for the University of Washington women's fastpitch softball team.
McPherson playing volleyball
Kennedy graduate and West Seattle resident Shayne McPherson is a member of the University of Washington women's beach volleyball team as a freshman.
