A young man, only 15 years old has died after being stabbed near the southern portion of Westcrest Park this morning according to Seattle Police. He has been identified as Derek Juarez-Lopez a sophomore at Chief Sealth International High School. The Seattle Times published a story detailing his family's grief and matters surrounding the crime on Wednesday.
In response to the crime a GoFundMe page has been set up to help his family pay for funeral and medical costs. It has already exceeded $8,000 of the $10.000 goal.
Detectives now believe that robbery was the motive behind this homicide. Homicide detectives are actively pursuing leads and encourage anyone with information on yesterday’s incident to contact investigators. This is still an active and on-going investigation.
Just before 9:15 AM, the victim walked out of the woods and collapsed on a sidewalk near 6th Avenue Southwest and Southwest Cambridge Street.
The Seattle Police Blotter said that the victim said he’d been stabbed and passersby called 911.
Medics were called to the scene to treat the man and officers searched the area for a suspect, witnesses and other evidence.
