Woman returns from out-of-town trip to find car stolen, front door damaged
A woman residing in the 4000 block of California Ave SW went out of town between Thursday, Nov. 23 and Monday, Dec. 4. When she came home around 11 p.m., she discovered that her car had been stolen. Then she noticed that her front door was damaged. The lock was not working, and the door would not close all the way. She asked her father to help fix the door. He told her to check to see if anything was missing from her home. She searched and found that a firearm kept under her bed was gone. She called police around noon, Tuesday, Dec. 5 to report the missing weapon. The woman told police that she does not trust her roommate and was suspicious of the roommate’s friends as well. Her roommate was out of town, and officers were not able to contact her.
Burglar takes credit card and ID from wallet
When officers arrived in the 9200 block of 2 Ave SW to investigate a burglary around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, they found the victim on the phone with her bank. She said that she left her apartment around 11:30 a.m. and returned an hour later. She noticed her wallet was missing and then found it in a chair in her bedroom. She thinks someone came in her back door. She said that anyone could walk into her ground floor apartment – and that it is close to a homeless encampment. The wallet was missing her ID card, bank debit card and Costco card. A silver hard case was missing as well. Nothing else was touched, and there were no signs of forced entry. The victim told officers she would change her locks.
Construction company burglarized
Officers received a call around 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, about a business that was burglarized in the 7700 block of 11 Ave SW. The crime occurred overnight. The suspect kicked in the front door and then a garage door and took several tools belonging to a construction company. The complete list was not available at the time that the police made their report. Officers were able to lift fingerprints from cabinets that had been opened by the suspect.
Thief hits home on Fauntleroy Way SW
Just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, officers were dispatched to investigate a residential burglary in the 5900 block of Fauntleroy Way SW. The caller said the crime occurred while she was at work. When she came home, she found that the door was open and the kitchen window was smashed. She said the suspect rummaged through her place and went through her drawers, scattering items around her room. The suspect also went through her filing drawers and took her social security card, banking statements and medical records. The burglar also took a PlayStation and two controllers for the game system. Officers recommended that she install cameras as a deterrent in the future.
