Cat escapes after burglary

Around 1:20 p.m. on Friday, May 25, officers arrived at an apartment located in the 8600 block of 26th Ave SW to investigate a burglary. A witness saw a man standing near the apartment. When he noticed her, she said, he ducked away to avoid her and left the area. Officers walked to the back of the apartment and noticed that the sliding back door was open. They searched the residence and determined that the suspect entered through a back window, by knocking an air conditioner out of place. Valuables had not been stolen, making officers think that the suspect was searching for something in particular. One of the roommates living at the apartment arrived and said that one of his cats had escaped through the open patio door. The man agreed to follow up with officers once he determined if any items were stolen from his home.

Burglary at construction site

Around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, officers arrived in the 5000 block of 50 Ave SW to investigate a burglary on a construction site. The caller explained that he and his employees were reframing an unoccupied house and left their tools and supplies inside at night. A suspect pried open a locked sliding glass door and broke in through a plywood board screwed in place in the doorway. Once inside the house, the suspect stole about $5,500 worth of tools and copper wiring. Officers took photos of the scene for evidence. No fingerprints were located.

Vacant home possibly burglarized

Around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, a man called police to report a burglary of his vacant home in the 800 block of SW Henderson St. He said that his brother was working on repairs and noticed that the back kitchen window was smashed in and that the back door was open. The caller said nothing appeared to be missing. He said that squatters had been in the home before.

Burglary on Marine View Dr.

A man left his home, located in the 10600 block of Marine View Dr. SW, in the morning on Monday, May 21 to go to work and returned around 5:30 p.m. to discover that someone had rifled through the dresser in his bedroom. In addition, he found that a large jewelry box and the $10,000 worth of jewelry it contained were missing. A Rolex watch had been stolen. Spare keys to both of the man’s vehicles were gone. The man’s daughter’s purse was stolen as well. Officers arrived and advised the victim to have the locks on his vehicles changed. They also suggested looking online to see if anyone was attempting to sell his belongings. Officers searched for fingerprints but were unable to find any. They also took photos of the scene for evidence.
