Joseph Smith

Our dad, Joseph Smith began his wonderful journey called life in Vancouver, B.C. Canada on December 19, 1931, and ended his journey on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in West Seattle, WA. He was born to Mary and Joseph Smith where he joined older sister Marion (Auntie Lala to those in the know). A few short years later, little sister Cibell (our beloved Auntie Cib) was born and completed their young Scottish family.

 

Karen Elizabeth Hume

Karen Elizabeth Hume (Groh) “Gram” age 84, was called home to Heaven in the early morning of August 11, 2023, with her daughter by her side.

After her 1939 birth in Lincoln, Nebraska, Karen spent her school years between Lincoln, Bremerton (WA), Colorado Springs (CO), and Seattle (WA). 

From mountains, to sound, and everything in-between, Karen was always in awe of the natural beauty that is Washington State.  One of her earliest jobs, she recalled often with fond memories, was at Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier as a switchboard operator.

Myrol Allen "Pat" Sweeney

Myrol Allen “Pat” Sweeney was born on April 21, 1936. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and caregivers in Kent on August 15, 2023.

In 1940, Pat and his family migrated to the West Coast from Wisconsin “one state at a time” and eventually settled in Kirkland, WA in 1948. After serving in the US Army from 1954-56, Pat began a partnership to start a newspaper and printshop in Duvall, WA. It was a decision that led Pat to embark on a successful 50-year career in the newspaper and printing industries.

Annette C. Miller (Bryce



Annette C. Miller brought beauty everywhere she went. She passed away on July 11, 2023 from heart disease. Annette was a lifelong resident of West Seattle and loved her home, but in the winter, trips to tropical locales were always on the calendar.

She attended E.C. Hughes Elementary where her teachers would leave her in charge of the class while they had other obligations. She was a natural with children.

Jon-Paul Sletten

 

Jon-Paul ("Jon") ("JP") Sletten passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in the early morning hours of April 27, 2023. He was 53 years old at the time of his death - gone from this world too soon for all who knew and loved him.

Gloria Jean Webber (Turk)

 

 

Daughter of John Willard Turk and Virginia June Webber, born September 23, 1945, 4th of 7 sibling children born in Pawating Hospital in Niles, Michigan.  She passed away on February 5, 2023, at Kaiser Permanente Zion Hospital, in San Diego, California.  She and her surviving husband, Harold Webber, married since May 20, 2001, retired to San Diego, California in 2010 from Seattle.

Vanetta Warren

Vanetta Rae Warren (House) passed away surrounded by family at her home on Alki Beach, WA the evening of October 24, 2022.

 

Vanetta was born in Bozeman, Montana 3/24/1934 to parents, Edgar (Ed) J. House and Lucile M. House (Johnson). Her parents, older brother Wayne House and younger brother Bruce (Pinky) House, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Michael; her grandchildren: Ben, Brian, Michael, Bart, Sarah, Barbara, Erika, Paula, and Patrick; great-grandchildren: Coralie, Oakley, Freya, Tucker, and Alessa.

 

Elouise Margarette (Carle) Nix

In memory of longtime Renton resident (60 years) Elouise Margarette (Carle) Nix who died last March 15, 2022, in Renton, WA at the age of 96 years. Elouise was born July 4, 1925, in West Seattle to Vera and Domenick Carle. She was descended from the Andresen (granddaughter of) and Sutter pioneer families of Bainbridge Island.

Elouise attended Jefferson Grade School, James Madison Middle School, and West Seattle High School. She grew up in the family businesses, Carle’s Furs and Pacific Dye Works.

Patricia Catherine (Mares) Jones 06/09/1934 – 02/12/2023

Patricia Catherine (Mares) Jones was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on February 12, 2023. Pat was born in Minneapolis, MN to Albert and Edna Mares. Pat was the oldest of 5 children, and fondly recounted her memories growing up with James, Albert, Janet, and Judy. Her family relocated to Bremerton, Washington in 1941 when her father got a job at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In her early adult years, she trained as an x-ray tech at Virginia Mason. Shortly thereafter she met her husband Don and they moved to West Seattle to begin a family.
