Around June 21 a foreign exchange student attending college and renting a house on the 9000 block of 14th Ave S.W. walked into the rental agency, dropped off his keys and calmly stated he was leaving – without notice. The rental agency informed the man he would lose his $550 deposit which didn’t faze him as he left without another word. Upon inspection of the house, the agency found the interior trashed. Two days later a man from the agency stopped by the house and discovered someone had pried open the front door and spray painted the walls and floors with “an extensive amount” of dollar sign graffiti ($) and other references to money (with white paint). An empty Chateau St. Michelle wine bottle and Crystal Geyser water bottle were all that remained of the unknown suspect’s visit. While the bottles were sent back to the lab for prints, the management company told police they would send over the ex-tenant’s information.
A woman arrived at her 16th Ave S.W. home on June 22 around 3:55 p.m., walked into her backyard and came face to face with two white males (one with a mustache) carrying bins full of kitchen equipment. They ran to their custom gray primer colored four door sedan and took off. The victim, now retired, had owned many restaurants during her career days and the stockpiled kitchen equipment pilfered from her yard were the artifacts of her craft. She told police the thieves were likely the same men who had stolen from her before. Officers believed a nearby security video may have captured the dull gray sedan.
Burglars made a poor decision when breaking into a vacant house in the process of foreclosure on SW Roxbury on June 23. The house was completely empty except for a mattress on the floor and a single chair.
On June 21 a well-disguised burglar busted into the front door of a convenience store on 16th Ave S.W. shortly after 4 a.m. and, with only one item on his stealing list, climbed over the counter and stuffed a bag with 23 cartons of cigarettes (at around $50 a pop). He did not touch the breath mints on the way out.
