Two people, a man and woman were taken to Harborview Hospital on Monday July 4 after a fire broke out in a home at 10115 Marine View Drive at approximately 3:25 pm. 21 SFD units responded.

Incident Commander Ryan Hastings said, "They had small fire in their cellar. We had a couple of occupants of the home suffer from smoke inhalation and they both got taken to Harborview. The fire was confined to the room of origin and we're going to be investigating it here shortly when we get the investigators on the scene.

Marine View Drive was closed to through traffic.\

According to the Seattle Fire Department

After interviewing the occupants and examining the scene, investigators concluded discarded smoking material on cardboard was to blame for the fire which began in the basement wine cellar.

Around 3:30, firefighters were called to the 10100 block of Marine View Drive SW in West Seattle for reports of smoke in the basement of a three story home. Ladder truck 13 arrived to find light smoke coming from the lower-level of the house. The first firefighters inside the home used a pump can to extinguish the fire within a few short minutes.

Two occupants inside the home were treated for smoke inhalation and transported to Harborview Medical Center for further examination. A male in his 60’s suffered minor smoke inhalation and singeing to his hair after he tried to put out the fire before calling 911. He was transported to HMC by Medic One and was conscious, breathing and in stable condition. A female in her 50’s, who rescued the family dogs from the smoke, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with minor smoke inhalation.

Investigators estimate the dollar loss was 20 thousand dollars to the structure and 50 thousand dollars to the property.
