Someone broke the cable lock to gain entry into a secured construction site on S. Kenyon St. on July 5. Once inside the unknown suspect(s) apparently used the front bumper of a white 2007 Lexus ES to break through the doors of several storage boxes on site. Pipes and fittings were stolen and the Lexus’s front bumper, along with a license plate, was left as evidence. Police ran the license plate and records show the Lexus was an insurance owned “total loss” with a report of sale in April 2011.
The “Share the road” ethos between bicyclists and motor vehicles broke down on July 3 when two males in a truck traveling northbound on California Ave S.W. came upon two female cyclists traveling northbound as well. The driver honked his horn and tried to pass the cyclists when one of the cyclists reportedly started beating on his window and yelling, “Share the road with bikes!” while the other cyclist (according to an eyewitness) tried to grab onto the truck and fell as a result. The driver pulled over and hurled a profanity back at the cyclists, prompting the window-beater to go to the passenger’s window and spit in the passenger’s face. She then went to the driver’s side and started punching the driver in the face repeatedly. When police arrived the aggressive cyclist told police, “I was wronged and I did a wrong.” She told police she saw her riding partner get struck by the truck, prompting her attack. The driver had swelling and bruising on his face and was transported to Harborview for treatment. The bicyclist suspects were interviewed and released from the scene.
A woman living in a 36th Ave S.W. house since July of last year said she left her house for the day on June 29 and came home to find her computer and digital camera missing. Oddly, both her rear and front doors were locked with deadbolts and there were no other signs of forced entry. The woman told police she had not changed the locks since buying the house and figured a previous tenant with a key was the likely culprit. Officers were unable to find usable fingerprints and the woman said she planned to change her locks immediately.
Around 4:50 p.m. on July 2 a burglar entered the home of a couple living on 63rd Ave S.W. The husband was in the shower at the time while his wife, “in very poor health,” was resting in bed. The burglar went into the wife’s room and began going through drawers causing her to wake up. Police say she was barely able to sit up, but she did and screamed for help. Her husband heard the scream and rushed to their room, but by that time the burglar had ran away. The victims said nothing appeared to be stolen and police lifted prints from the window screen handled by the suspect.
