From South Park on July 13, a man standing on the corner of 10th Ave S/S Cloverdale St shortly after midnight was approached by three men. One of them asked the victim for a dollar. He declined and the men started reaching into his pockets. The victim took off running but one of the suspects pulled out a taser gun and shot him in the abdomen. The three suspects took off running in different directions and the victim walked home before calling 911. He had a visible burn with dark bruising developing on the left side of his stomach but declined hospital care. The suspect with the taser was described as a black male in his mid-20s with scraggly facial hair, 5 foot 10 inches, 140 pounds with a grey wool shirt and dark pants.
On July 10 at approximately 2 a.m. police responded to a robbery call on the 3200 block of California Ave S.W. The female victim flagged down a young boy riding his bike home and asked him to call 911. The boy called his stepmother, who came to the scene, gave the woman a sweater to keep warm and called police. The victim, described as “extremely intoxicated” told police she came to West Seattle from Edmonds to enjoy Summer Fest and, after drinking wine and liquor all day, lost track of her friends. She said she was walking down an alley when a group of people stole her backpack and stabbed her in the back with a knife (police examined her back and found several scratch marks consistent with fingernails but no knife wound). She could not describe the suspects and could not remember how she got from the alley to California Ave, but believed she had been drugged. The victim was also wearing a hospital bracelet and told police it was from, “some hospital for drinking too much.” She was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
A musician’s home on SW Orchard was burglarized on July 7, but only a laptop was stolen. Sometime between noon and 4 p.m. a burglar pried open a ground floor window and made his/her way to the basement recording studio that was deadbolted shut. The unknown suspect kicked the door down and took a brand new Apple Macbook Pro laptop but left guitars, amps, speakers, mixing boards, recording equipment, keyboards, drums and a shotgun in a hard case alone.
Editor’s reminder: There have been several burglary reports recently where thieves use ladders, metal lattice or anything available in victims’ backyards to gain height and access homes through higher windows. Southwest Precinct CPT Officer Jonathan Kiehn has suggested keeping ladders (or anything potentially climbable) locked up to deter this burglar advantage.
