Arguing with knives and a machete
On Sunday morning, Nov. 27, police responded to an assault involving a machete on the 9400 block of Olson Pl. S.W. The victim told police he heard two acquaintances arguing in the living room, including what sounded like knives being thrown against the wall. Attempting to stop the fight, the victim encountered one of the men standing in the living room holding a machete. Unscathed by profanity-ridden tirades and a swinging machete, the victim said he forced the suspect out of his house and suffered lacerations to his arm and nose in the process. An area check for the suspect was unsuccessful, but the machete was recovered outside the home and placed into evidence.

A strange encounter at McDonald’s
While assisting with a burglary investigation at a McDonald’s on California Ave S.W. on Nov. 22, an officer was approached by a female “who mentioned it was interesting how we patted down the suspect. She added she was studying criminal justice.” The officer returned to his patrol vehicle and received a call over dispatch that a woman inside the same McDonald’s called 911 to report an assault that had occurred an hour earlier. He went inside and found paramedics attending to the same woman who had critiqued the burglary investigation. When asked why she didn’t mention the assault in their earlier conversation, the woman told the officer he looked busy. The woman told police she was walking near a high school when a male and female teenager approached her (around 4 p.m.) with ski masks on. They each demanded $50, she said. When she told them she didn’t have any money the suspects put her into a headlock. She said she wrangled free and ran to McDonald’s. Both the officer and victim agreed a strong arm robbery with ski masks on California Ave in broad daylight was a rarity. The officer told her he would complete a robbery report and she asked if he would send it to her parents in Oregon. The officer advised her she could obtain a copy through the police department and send it to them herself.

Rare gin stolen
A very rare bottle of gin in the shape of a light bulb was stolen from a S.W. Kenyon St. home on Nov. 28. The victim told police the bottle was likely one of only a few in the country.

Lawn service front gone awry
On Nov. 28 around 11 a.m. a man heard a knock at his SW 112th St. home. The person at the front door continued knocking and identified himself as an employee for a lawn service company. The homeowner told police he didn’t answer the door because he didn’t need lawn service and was busy. Moments later he started hearing loud banging on the side and rear of his house. He witnessed the suspect attempting to open the rear sliding glass door and confronted him. The suspect once again claimed to simply be from a lawn service company and, after likely realizing the gig was up, fled.

Sign the crime
Two nearby homes were burglarized around S.W. 112th St. on Nov. 22 where the suspect(s) left a signature of their crime. In both cases, large culinary knives were taken from the kitchen and placed around the home. In one case knives were found on the kitchen counter, the living room coffee table and the couch.
