SLIDESHOW: Chief Sealth tops Foster in a close one, 64-58

The Foster Bulldogs girls visited the Chief Sealth Seahawks in a non-division game Thursday night. Experience and offensive execution helped the Seahawks to their fifth straight win in a row, beating the Bulldogs 64-58.
Foster didn’t make it easy for Chief Sealth; their defense played well by creating over 20 Seahawk turnovers. Foster was also able to get plenty of second chance opportunities to score with great offensive rebounding, but weren’t very successful scoring on their second chances. Having a few days off for the break and injuries played a role for the Bulldogs as well. Head coach Datri Elliott said after the game “I wish we could execute better on second chance shots, we couldn’t make our layups and get back quick enough, those are some of the things we need to work on.” She was pleased with her defense saying, “I’m not too worried about our defense, were pretty strong. I just wish we could turn the turnovers we force into points.”

Bianca Benivadies scored a team high 18 points for Foster, Sahara Hill wasn’t able meet her 20 point per game average but finished with 13 points before sitting out most of the fourth quarter after re-injuring her bad ankle. Kirsten Goins also scored 13.
Chief Sealth’s key to their victory was being able to execute their offense and the success of breaking the press. “We were able to break Fosters press pretty easily, leading to easy points” Chief Sealth head coach Katie Jo Maris said after the game. “We did have some foul trouble though, we had three girls with four fouls and had one player (Averie Mascarinas) foul out; we’ve got some tough competition coming up but I think we’re ready and mentally prepared for the challenge.”
Game high scorer Victoria Elleby of the Seahawks finished with 23 points with 12 coming from her four three pointers. Zoe Haywood scored 16 points and knocked down two three pointers of her own.
