West Seattle played host to Nathan Hale Friday night, January 13 for a girls’ varsity basketball matchup. Both teams have been having a struggle so far this season as Nathan Hale stood at 4-8 and West Seattle 3-8 prior to the game.
The game started very slowly for both sides. No points were scored until West Seattle put one in with 3:35 to go in the first quarter. At the end of the first the score was only 7-3 with West Seattle leading. Nathan Hale’s strong defense proved to be the difference in this one as they racked up over 20 steals for the game and causing 30 turnovers for West Seattle. The Raiders did a good job with getting high percentage shots down low in the key.
Nathan Hale’s senior guard Gabby Evans scored a game high 21 points, while knocking down three, three pointers. Hannah Evans ended with 12 points. On West Seattle’s side Gabby Flores finished with 11 points and Roz Weeks with 10.
West Seattle head coach Sonya Elliot said after the game, “We played pretty well, though we weren’t shooting at our best. We were making good decisions and running the ball up court”. West Seattle now stands at 1-7 in league and 3-9 overall. Nathan Hale stands at 3-5 in league and 5-8 overall.
For their next games Nathan Hale will be visiting Cleveland on Wednesday Jan 18th and West Seattle travels to Lakeside, also on Wednesday, January 18th.
