The 5th Annual Adopt-A-Thon at Kitty Harbor, 3422 Harbor Ave. s.w. got underway at Noon on Saturday Jan. 14 and people lined up outside to get their pick of various litters, so to speak as more than 60 cats were made available for adoption. This is a very special event in part because Delyn Kosbab normally only opens from June through Christmas, and then reopens for one additional weekend.
Many of the cats came from the King County Animal Shelter with others coming from Pet Over Population, headquarterd in the Tri-Cities. As the event began there were 20 kittens, 20 'teenagers', and 20 adult cats available.

Teri Ensley, President of Furry Faces Foundation, who lost a beloved pet in a fire in her home earlier this week, was there to help Kosbab. The relief effort for Ensley got underway almost immediately after the fire and is, according to Ensley and others going well.
King County Executive and West Seattle resident Dow Constantine indicated he would stop by to lend the county's support, and encouragement, to adopt the pets.
The Animal Shelter, located in Kent is limited to the numbers of cats and dogs it can hold as it lies in the Howard Hanson Dam flood plain and in an emergency the shelter would need to quickly evacuate. Therefore, the Kent kitties adopted this weekend will free up space at the Kent shelter for new, needy animals.
The event continues tomorrow and you can contact Kitty Harbor by phone at (206) 935-1919.
