Seattle fire responded to a fire at a single family residence on SW 97th St and 35th Ave SW around 11:40 pm on Saturday night, Jan. 14.
The residence was not occupied and neighbors said the home had been foreclosed on in recent days. Incident Commander Kos of SFD said that 35 to 40 firefighters responded to the blaze and quickly got it under control but since holes in the floor were apparent and no information was available from the home owner firefighters did not enter the house.
PIO Kyle Moore said that drills in the Arbor Heights neighborhood, conducted since fire last summer revealed low pressure problems in the area were helpful in dealing with this fire. "They knew that connecting to the 8 inch main on 35th would give them better pressure so they did that immediately ."
An investigation is now underway, even as chainsaws cut holes in walls but Moore said it would be sometime before the cause was known.
The house appeared to be a near total loss. More photos will be posted soon.
