Special Weather Statement
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA
...SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP MONDAY AFTERNOON AND
PERSIST INTO TUESDAY...
...A STRONGER SYSTEM MAY GIVE WIDESPREAD SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL
AMOUNTS TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY BEFORE TURNING TO RAIN...
A VERY ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK...TEMPERATURES WILL BE COLD ENOUGH THAT PRECIPITATION WILL MAINLY FALL IN THE FORM OF SNOW IN THE LOWLANDS. HEAVY SNOW IS POSSIBLE AT TIMES IN THE MOUNTAINS FOR THE UPCOMING WEEK.
TWO WEATHER SYSTEMS ARE EXPECTED TO GIVE THE POTENTIAL FOR
ACCUMULATING SNOW. THE FIRST SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OFF
VANCOUVER ISLAND THEN MOVE SOUTHEAST INTO NORTHERN PORTIONS
OF WESTERN WASHINGTON MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY.
MOST COMPUTER MODELS INDICATE THAT PRECIPITATION WILL BE SHOWERY IN NATURE.
LOCALLY HEAVY AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE IN THE MOUNTAINS...ALONG THE
COAST...OVER THE SOUTH INTERIOR...AND WITH A CENTRAL PUGET SOUND
CONVERGENCE ZONE. MOST PLACES WILL SEE 2 TO 4 INCH ACCUMULATIONS.
A MORE SIGNIFICANT SYSTEM WILL LIKELY AFFECT WESTERN WASHINGTON
BEGINNING TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THIS SYSTEM COULD
BRING SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS OF HEAVY WET SNOW BEFORE
PRECIPITATION TURNS TO RAIN. SOME COMPUTER MODELS KEEP THE AREA IN
COLDER AIR LONGER THAN OTHERS...BUT THE CONSENSUS IS THAT
PRECIPITATION WILL TURN FROM SNOW TO RAIN OVER SOUTHWEST
WASHINGTON WEDNESDAY MORNING AND OVER THE NORTH INTERIOR
WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
