Distaste for exercise?
On Jan. 14 a teenage male told police he was jogging along the 9000 block of 12th Ave S. in South Park when an unknown Hispanic male around 25 years old, 5’6” wearing a baseball cap and dark clothing fired three shots at him. The victim was hit in the thigh and taken to the Highline Medical Center for attention. Police scoured the scene but could not find any evidence. Residents along the block of the shooting were interviewed and no one said they heard or saw gunfire. The victim is expected to recover and the suspect is still on the loose.
They don’t make ‘em like they used to
Someone tried to break into a fiction writer’s unique study on 39th Ave S.W. The man writes from a 1957 Airstream trailer (the big aluminum one) and has books, a desk and an old computer inside. The under-achieving thief made some dents and scrapes to the body attempting to pry the door open, but was unsuccessful.
Busy criminal
An unknown Asian male carjacked a victim on the 1700 block of Airport Way S., beating the man and taking his car while in the parking lot of a business. A little while later Southwest Precinct officers were called to a hit and run on our side of the Duwamish. The suspect fled on foot after the crash and left the jacked car behind. Soon after the hit and run South Precinct officers responded to the gunpoint robbery of a cab driver. The suspect, fitting the description of earlier incidents, fled into the “jungle” after the robbery. The cab driver incident was a close match – both in suspect description and events – to a robbery on Airport Way S. on Jan. 10.
Suspicious abandoned home fire
On Saturday night, Jan. 14, firefighters responded to a house fire near the corner of S.W. 97th St. and 35th Ave S.W. a bit before midnight. The home, boarded up and recently foreclosed, had flames rushing out of windows and it took firefighters nearly an hour to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters decided not to enter the home because the 2-story structure was unsafe and investigators continue to search for the fire’s origin.
A rough welcome to America
Late last month a man who just arrived in the United States a week before (the report did not say where he came from) was outside his residence on S.W. Dakota St. having a cigarette when he noticed five to six males drinking alcohol nearby. The males saw him, walked over and asked for a cigarette. Happy to oblige, the victim was handing out a smoke when one of the suspects tried to steal his cell phone. The victim struggled with the thief and got his phone back. The suspects, described as white males in their early twenties and intoxicated, fled the scene. The victim waited quite a while until contacting police and said he was unfamiliar with the 911 system. Responding officers explained when to call 911 in the future.
