Jail time for candy bars
Two Admiral Safeway security officers called 911 in the early afternoon of Jan. 26 to report they were following a theft suspect north on California Ave S.W. The suspect had entered Safeway and stolen two to three candy bars. The security officers confronted him before he entered a 2300 block California Ave bar, and the man became hostile: He asked the officers if they wanted to perform a sexual act for him, threatened to punch them in the face, and finally spit in a female officers left eye before entering the bar. Police arrived and employees of the bar said they saw the man walk into the bar and out the back door. Looking southbound down the alley, the officers spotted and arrested the man.
Jumped on California Ave
Two “very intoxicated men” called 911 around 3:30 in the morning to report they had been jumped by two unidentified male suspects. They said the ordeal started when the suspects began “cat calling” the sister of one of the victim’s at a California Ave S.W. restaurant. As they left the restaurant, the victims reported they went separate ways and were both jumped, possibly by the same suspects. One victim said he was hit in the head with a bottle. Police noted the man had bruises on his forehead and arms and a laceration on the right side of his head. An area search for the suspect vehicle was negative.
Stealing medication, but not the recreational kind
A homeowner on 37th Ave S.W. returned home from vacation on Jan. 26 to find the place ransacked. Along with a laptop, 55-inch TV, $2200, computer monitors, credit cards and jewelry, the unknown suspects stole the victim’s blood pressure medication.
Burglar busted with tools of the trade
On Jan. 28 an alert resident noticed a white male wearing a dirty tan jacket walking back and forth through the alley and entering a fenced property along the 7300 block of 35th Ave S.W. After he witnessed the suspect walking away from the home with a radiator and returning with a black backpack, the resident called 911. Police responded and tracked the suspect (who has rap sheet of prior residential burglaries) down walking northbound near the intersection of 35th and Myrtle. Inside the man’s backpack were two fixed blade knives and several miscellaneous tools consistent with a burglary kit. There were no signs of forced entry at the home in question, so police let the man go and advised him of potential charges coming for criminal trespass and possession of burglary tools. The backpack and tools were taken as evidence.
Not in my house
On Jan. 27 a woman returned to her 36th Ave S.W. home after a short errand. Once inside she noticed part of her back door frame was broken off, so she called 911. Returning to her vehicle to grab something, she saw a Hispanic or light-skinned black female in her twenties standing in her front yard. The female walked away, attempting to appear nonchalant. Back inside her home, the victim saw a black male in his thirties wearing red gloves on the side of her house. She yelled at the man and he took of running. The victim assumed the female was acting as a lookout while the male attempted to break in. Nothing was stolen.
