Saw the whole thing happen
Earlier this month a woman and her mother were spending time together in the woman’s 29th Ave S.W. home shortly after noon on a Thursday when they heard a knock at the door. The woman looked outside and saw a teenage female (estimated age 14-16) at the door that she had never seen before. She decided not to answer and continued to watch as the girl peered into the front windows, walked into the neighbor’s yard, hopped the fence into her yard, walked onto the porch and started yanking on the sliding glass door. The victim yelled at the teen and she fled. Responding officers touched base with security at nearby school and they identified a possible suspect based on the description. The suspect was taken out of class and transported to the home for a show-up with the victims. They said it wasn’t the right girl and she was taken back to class.
Not cool, neighbor
A woman living in a 7500 block 24th Ave S.W. apartment complex called police to report she believed her male neighbor picked her lock and stole a purple sweater with a pink flower on it, a blue hooded sweatshirt and a bowl of spaghetti. Police suggested she take her complaint to the apartment manager.
Half-hearted robbery attempt
On Super Bowl Sunday the owner of a grocery store on the 5900 block of California Ave S.W. reported a man he had seen as a customer several times before came in around 3 p.m. and bought a pack of cigarettes. The man returned a few minutes later to purchase a soda and when the owner opened his cash drawer (which he said was bulging due to brisk pre-game purchases) the suspect reached over and grabbed a handful of $20 bills. The owner struggled with the man and was able the take the money back. The suspect said, “Sorry,” and walked away westbound on S.W. Juneau St.
Junction bicycle heist
On Feb. 3 around 2 p.m. a man riding his bike westbound on S.W. Alaska St. near the Junction saw a tall white male wearing a red sweater and blue jeans get off a Metro bus. The man asked the bicyclist to “come here for a minute” and the bicyclist stopped to find out what he wanted. The suspect, without warning, punched the victim in the face, knocked him off the bike, stole the bike and road away northbound in the alley east of 44th Ave S.W. The punch split the bridge of the victim’s nose and paramedics responded to check him out. An area check for the suspect was unsuccessful, so keep an eye out for a “customized” bike with different rear and front wheels (no further description was given).
