Albertsons has responded to questions regarding the store closing:

When did the White Center Albertsons open?

The store was opened June 4, 1963.

What is the actual closing day?

Operations will cease March 21, 2012

Will there be a Closing Business Sale?

As the date gets closer, there may be.

How many people work there? and are they being offered other jobs?

There are 50 associates working at this store. Saar’s has indicated that it will accept employment applications from existing associates. Associates may also apply for other positions and when possible, Albertsons will move affected associates to other positions.

Will Saar's also restart the Sav-On Pharmacy or will that be incorporated into the store or just remain closed?

You’d need to ask Saar’s about their plans for a pharmacy, if they plan on opening one. The White Center Sav-On Pharmacy will cease operation on Thursday, Feb. 23rd. The prescriptions from this Sav-On Pharmacy will be moved to the Sav-On Pharmacy at the Burien store – 12739 First Ave. South using the patient confidentiality standards required by law.

The West Seattle Herald has contacted Saar's about their plans but no statement has been offered as yet.

Albertsons a subsidiary of SuperValu Inc. has announced that its White Center store located at 10616 16th Ave., s.w. will be sold to Greg Saar’s of Saar’s Marketplace. The transaction is expected to close by March 21, 2012. The company operates more than 460 stores in 12 states. It is based in Boise, Idaho.

In a statement released today the company said:

" Given the competitive and difficult economic environment in which the company operates, it is occasionally necessary to close or sell those stores that are not meeting company goals. While the decision to close or sell a store is difficult—given the impact on associates and customers—Albertsons has a responsibility to do what is best for the long-term growth and success of the company as a whole.

Sav-On Pharmacy Closure Date & Prescription Information
All prescription files will be transferred to the neighboring Albertsons/Sav-on Pharmacy Burien store located at 12739 First Ave. South, using the patient confidentiality standards required by law. Signs will be posted outside of the pharmacy to notify customers. The White Center store Sav-On Pharmacy will cease operation on Thursday, Feb. 23.
