“I got homeboys, they got guns, and they’ll shoot you dead”
On Feb. 28 a female passenger was taking a Metro bus on her way to work downtown. She was traveling on Delridge Way S.W. shortly after 3 p.m. when she received and answered a phone call. As she talked a nearby male grabbed both of her hands and jerked them down forcibly, squirting the phone from her hands. The suspect timed the robbery for an upcoming stop and as the bus pulled over he exited with four friends. Not giving up so easily, the victim exited as well and started asking for her phone back. A female in the suspect group responded, “I got homeboys, they got guns, and they’ll shoot you dead.” The victim asked that they at least give her the SD (data) card and she would not call police. The suspects gave her the SD card and the victim walked to a nearby gas station where the clerk refused to let her use the phone to call 911. A woman pumping gas overheard the situation and let the woman use her cell phone to call police.
From Paris to ransacked home
A woman returned to her SW Seola Ln. home last month from a trip to Paris and London and realized the home had been ransacked. Her sons had stayed at their father’s home while she was gone and a neighbor who was feeding the cat hadn’t seen anything strange … except Coors Light cans strewn about the backyard. The woman told police one of her sons has a habit of throwing parties when she leaves town, often times “with people he does not know.” She believes unknown party-goers are to blame, helping themselves to several bottles of wine, an Xbox 360, and a pair of diamond earrings valued at $10,000.
Building hit once again
The owner of a building on the 9400 block of 17th Ave SW was perturbed to find out the place had been broken into yet again sometime late last month. After several prior break-in and vandalism incidents, this time around he said the unknown suspects stole his alarm system and cut his telephone wires. The responding officer mentioned the building looked abandoned, and said vacant buildings are sometimes targeted. Although the building was covered in graffiti, had broken out windows covered with wood and plastic and the inside was full of old newspapers and soda cans, the owner insisted he conducted business out of the building. When asked what kind, the man responded, “personal use.” The officer suggested motion detector lights, but said the victim “was not very receptive to the victim being the one that needed to make changes, but said he would consider it.”
Bike theft foiled
Two juveniles broke into a High Point neighborhood garage midday on Feb. 27 and stole two bicycles. The victim heard his garage door opening and saw the suspects flee. He telephoned a friend and they started chasing after the suspects on foot. Instead of using the bikes to expedite their escape, the suspects abandoned the booty and started jumping fences instead. The bikes were returned home safely. The victim said the two are known burglars in High Point. One is described as a mixed-race male, 13-14 years old, 5’6” with a very slim build. He was wearing a red beanie and black shorts. The other suspect was described as a Hispanic male, same age, 5 feet tall; very slim build and wearing a black and gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans. The victim believes both suspects live in High Point.
