The Chief Sealth Seahawks travelled to Memorial Stadium to play Metro Sound Division rival Franklin High School Quakers Friday afternoon. The 2-2 Seahawks were looking to rediscover their rhythm after coming off two straight losses including a 52-12 clubbing by Bishop Blanchet last week. The 1-3 Quakers had their first win last week against Ingraham and came in full of energy ready to start a streak.
After 3 hours of hard core football, the Seahawks proved they have the bigger guns.
The Quakers started strong with an interception by Quaker Calvin Vo put them at the Seahawk 19. Three penalties and a sack by Seahawk Darren Camacho left Franklin at 4th and 24. A quick kick by Franklin was blocked by Jesse Torres Cruz and the Seahawks had the ball back on their 35 yard line.
On offense, Sealth handed the ball to Marquise Givens who bounced like a pinball through the Franklin defense and scored on a 35 yard run. Sealth was first on the board 6-0.
Sealth’s next possession started on their own 4 yard line, and they put on a clinic. It was Givens again making a 21 yard gain. Then a pass to Ronnie Meier Johnson to the 40. A pass to Jake Eddy to the 24, a pass to Jamari Smith to the 19. A little of this, a little of that and Given was back at home in the end zone with a 2 yard run.
96 yards, 9 plays, 5 first downs and a touchdown in 2 minutes and 17 seconds. Sealth 13, Franklin 0.
Franklin finally pulled it together. After a nice string of plays, they converted on a nice pitch out to James Flower putting the Quakers on the board. It was Sealth 13, Franklin 6 with 9:31 left in the half.
It was Franklin again after Chief Sealth went 4 and out. The Quakers got the ball and went again to Flower for a 51 yard touchdown pass, bringing them to within 1. Sealth 13, Franklin 12…That was as close as Franklin would come to Chief Sealth.
Chief Sealth kept up the pressure, and Marquis Keenan blocked another Franklin quick kick and returned it for a 38 yard touchdown run making it Chief Sealth 21, Franklin 12 at the half.
The third quarter was a wash. Sealth scored on 29 yard pass to Leeandre Dickerson. Then Franklin returned the favor with a 33 yard pass followed by a running TD by Abiel Woldu. Sealth 27, Franklin 20 after 3 Quarters.
Chief Sealth put on a 33 point scoring clinic in the 4th quarter. Touchdowns by Chief Sealth’s Camacho and Givens put Sealth up 41-20. Franklin got back in the game on the kick-off return when Jordan Allen returned the kickoff about 80 yards making it Sealth 41, Franklin 26. Sealth responded with two passing touchdowns to Eddy and one by Trey Brown to cap off the night.
Final Score: Sealth 60, Franklin 26.
Comparing this week’s performance to last week’s, Chief Sealth Head Coach Carr talked about their preparation this week. “We had a good week of practice and some good conversations [about last week’s”. "Blanchet beat us up”. He focused the team this week on their style of play.. “We want to be fast, we want to be physical, and we want to be seen and we didn’t do that last week." They did it this week, and it put Sealth above .500.
