Prowling leads to pinning
On Sept. 20 around 9:30 p.m. a woman entered a parking garage on the 4700 block of 42nd Ave S.W. and started breaking out vehicle windows and rummaging through cars for items to steal. Soon after, police received several calls about a man who had a woman pinned to the ground inside the garage. When they arrived, police found the male victim had the female car prowl suspect under wraps. After police took the suspect into custody, the victim explained how he had just arrived home and was getting into the elevator when he heard a loud crash and, fearing his car was being broken into, stepped back into the garage and saw a woman half inside, half outside the newly busted passenger side window. He yelled at her to stop and she threw a GPS unit (just stolen from his vehicle) at him. The victim grabbed the woman by the arm and coat and pulled her to the ground. The woman attempted to punch and bite the man several times until police arrived. The suspect admitted to police that she was breaking into cars to “get change or something to sell.”
Drunken rock throwing leads to pinning
A “clearly intoxicated” male in his twenties showed up at a house on the 3200 block of S.W. Morgan St. shortly after 9 p.m. on Sept. 21 and started throwing rocks at the home and vehicle, yelling out a name no one inside knew. After a few windows were broken out, a father and son combo stepped outside to ask the man why he was throwing rocks at their house (they did not know the suspect). The suspect changed his focus and started throwing rocks at the son. The son ran after the suspect, who high-tailed it around the house to the street in an attempt to get away. Faster and not “clearly intoxicated,” the son quickly caught up with the man and held him down until police arrived. The victim refused to press charges for assault, but the suspect was arrested for property destruction. When asked by police what was going on, the suspect slurred that his friend’s iPod had been stolen and he believed the thief lived inside the house. Police then asked why he thought throwing rocks at the house “was supposed to get the property back?” The suspect could not provide an answer on that one.
Attacking police = bad idea (you will get pinned)
On Sept. 22, around 2 a.m., two police officers were dispatched to complaints of loud music coming from a home on the 5900 block of Fauntleroy Way S.W. Per usual, they went to the door and asked the partygoers inside if they would please turn the music down for the remainder of the night. The homeowner turned his music down and police noticed five males sitting on various couches and chairs in various states of consciousness. Beer cans were strewn about, the smell of marijuana was strong, and several bongs were out and about. Police were just leaving when the music was cranked back up to previous 911-call inducing levels. They turned around, knocked again, and asked the homeowner to grab identification and step outside for a possible citation. They also asked the rest of the party to leave. The situation devolved from there as several suspects started yelling at police, stating they had no right to be on the property. One suspect was arrested after putting his fists up in a perceived attempt to fight officers. As he was being led away a second suspect stepped onto a balcony, yelling. An officer attempted to arrest him for obstruction after he refused to go back inside. The man resisted and struggled with police. It eventually took three officers to get him under control and sent to jail for investigation of assault.
