It was a closely fought match but Sealth fell to Nathan Hale in their game Friday Jan 4, 43-38. Guard Trey Brown fell after being called for traveling and causing a turnover near Nathan Hale's Tim Iwuoha.

The Chief Sealth Seahawks come out flat in their post- holiday opener against Nathan Hale and lost in the closing moments 38-43.
The normally scrappy Seahawks looked off their game offensively and defensively. A lack of a fast break and poor shooting doomed them in the closing moments of a closely fought contest.
The Seahawks were well rested and ready for a new year after the Christmas break. But as any sports fan knows taking a break can sometimes stifle momentum, take the edge off, or create rust.
The Hawks energy was apparent Friday night when the Nathan Hale Raiders came into the Hawks Nest at Chief Sealth High School for the first game of 2013.
The speed was there but something wasn’t right.
While the Seahawks held the Raiders scoreless in the first three minutes of the contest they were only able to generate one point of offense. That came from a foul to point guard Trey Brown.
Both teams struggled in the first period and at the buzzer the score was tied at seven all.
In the second, the Hawks shooting woes continued. Unable to get the rock to fall in their usually predictable fashion the Seahawks looked frustrated. The penetration to the hoop was there but the ball just wasn’t finding the mark.
At the other end of the court Hale found openings at the corners and at the half pulled away for a 19-14 lead.
In the second half the Seahawks ramped up their defense and looked more like the pre break Seahawks getting turnovers when needed but they couldn’t buy a basket and the Raiders were still finding brief glimpses in the corners for threes or long twos.
When the third period came to an end Sealth, despite playing better defensively, could not get the baskets to drop and found themselves lagging by eight 22-30.
The Seahawks battled back and half way through the fourth period they had the lead for the first time in two periods 36-35, but like the Tin Man caught in a rain storm the rust returned. The ball just wouldn’t go where it was supposed to. Nathan Hale took advantage and pulled away in the closing moments for a 43-38 victory.
Hopefully Chief Sealth will find the oil can in time for their next game when they go on the road to O’Dea on January 8th. Game time is 7:30 pm.
