Burglar takes everything except the pot
While the family was away at work and school on Oct. 7, an unknown burglar broke into a home by forcing his or her way through a door jam on 6th Ave. S.W. near Roxbury St. The exhaustive list of stolen items included an Ipad, a 10-pair collection of vintage Air Jordan shoes, large sums of cash and handfuls of jewelry, a Gucci wallet, five Coach purses that were on display in a glass case, a checkbook and credit cards. One item the suspect apparently had no interest in was a 2-gram bag of marijuana found sitting on the floor of one of the ransacked rooms. While police and the victims worked through the list of stolen items one of the victims received a text message to her phone stating her credit card had just been used for a gasoline purchase in Tukwila. Police dusted the scene for fingerprints.
This week in liquor theft
It’s a common crime these days with the privatization of liquor making the hard stuff available on grocery store shelves. In a recent episode on the afternoon of Oct. 5 a white male described as “transient” by police apparently walked into a grocery store on the 2600 block of California Ave. S.W. and grabbed a bottle of Seagram’s gin, a bottle of Fireball whiskey and two bottles of Skyy vodka (valued around $100 in total). A security guard for the store watched the young man walk past all points of sale and confronted him near an exit. The suspect became confrontational and tried to shove his way past with the bottles still in hand. More store employees came into play and they were eventually able to rescue the liquor and keep him under wraps until police arrived. The suspect continued his struggle with police as he was handcuffed and arrested for investigation of robbery. The incident occurred only a few days before several parents of nearby West Seattle High School gathered to discuss problems with their kids obtaining alcohol from “transients” who hang out at Hiawatha Playfield and offer up their thieving services.
Beating over a phone
Around 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 4 a male victim reported he was hanging out on the 2500 block of S.W. Barton St. (near Westwood Village) when a group of people beat him up and stole his smartphone. The victim did not report the incident until the next day. Police who interviewed him said the victim suffered a cut under his right eye and a possible broken jaw. His mom said she would take him to the hospital. The victim was unable to provide suspect descriptions.
