We just spoke with Andy Barnecut, former manager of Barnecut's Admiral Way Service Station (recently sold), who said after a well deserved break he is back working as the mechanic for Hegge Chevron at 35th and Holden.

It was big news for long time West Seattle residents this summer when Dick Barnecut announced he was selling his Barnecut’s Admiral Way Service Station after 83 years as a local family business.
For customers who depended on the Barnecuts for their car servicing and gas tank-filling needs, it was doubly sad that Dick’s son, Andy, wouldn't be around to run the store and work on vehicles anymore.
It appears Andy will be back in action soon.
Karen Quealey, manager of the Chevron Station at 35th Ave. S.W. and S.W. Holden, let the Herald know she hired Andy to become their new mechanic starting Monday, Nov. 4.
Quealey said “we’re glad” Barnecut is coming on board because their prior mechanic recently left.
Dick’s father George Barnecut Sr. founded an Admiral District service station in 1923 and moved it to the long time 4100 S.W. Admiral Way location in 1932. He told the Herald sky-high property taxes forced him to sell to Marc Gartin in June. Over the years they also found business dropping because “people buy less gas,” and those who do often opt for the big guys like Costco and Safeway. He said auto repairs are less common these days as well.
