Metro service cuts impacts will be highlighted at bus stop press conference

Local leaders Joe Fitzgibbon – 34th District State Representative. Tom Rasmussen - Seattle City Councilmember, Joe McDermott– King County Councilmember Amanda Kay Helmick & Members of the West Seattle Transportation Coalition will hold a bus stop press conference Monday Nov. 18 to highlight the need for transportation solutions that prevent massive new traffic congestion in West Seattle.
The event is set to take place just north of the 35th Ave SW & Avalon Way bus stop at 8:30am between The Bridge restaurant and KFC.
With mitigation funds from the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Project going away as well as a budget shortfall for King County Metro – West Seattle neighborhoods will be disproportionately impacted by reduction in bus service. Metro released a preliminary report on what 17% cuts would look like last week.
Cuts will affect eight out of every 10 riders, with more than 70 routes eliminated completely. These transit reductions will place an estimated additional 10,000 cars on our overtaxed West Seattle roadways.
