UPDATE: Small boat capsizes off Alki Beach; People forced to scramble on overturned hull, one dies after recovery

A man, who spent 30 minutes in and underwater in Puget Sound off Alki Point following the capsizing of a boat this afternoon has died, according to the boat operator. The approximately 25 foot commercial aluminum boat overturned in high wind and waves off Alki forcing those aboard to clamber atop the overturned hull. One man did not make it and a search by Seattle Police and US Coast Guard followed. He was recovered about a half an hour later and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. He was in critical condition but later succumbed. According to KOMO News the men had been conducting a dive survey at the time of the accident.

The person who was recovered, was in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center according to the Seattle Fire Department. They were said to be in and under water for at least 30 minutes.

One person who went in the water from a capsized boat off Alki Point has been taken to the hospital. Overturned boat is being towed to the Don Armeni Boat Ramp where it will be taken out of the water.

A small boat overturned off Alki on Friday afternoon according to the Beach Drive Blog, requiring a Coast Guard rescue.
Three people had to get on top of the overturned hull.
They reported that the boat appeared to be traveling with another vessel. The boat was left behind but a Coast Guard helicopter showed up to assist in the rescue.
KOMO News reports that one person is still missing.
The Seattle Fire Department said that medics are standing by at Fire Station 5 to treat 3 possibly hypothermic patients rescued from waters off Alki.
