Trailing 3-2 and down to their last out of the game, the West Seattle High School softball team made their coach proud Wednesday afternoon by stringing together four consecutive hits and racking up three runs en route to 5-3 come from behind victory against arch rival Chief Sealth.

“That was very, very, very exciting. That last inning is how we’ve been playing most of the year, it took us a few innings to get there today but we had some girls step up,” Eric McCurdy, the Wildcats head coach said.

The Seahawks nearly had the game in the bag, and kept the wildcats on the ropes six and a half innings. Sealth played a nearly flawless game, scoring runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings and keeping west Seattle off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth.

“We had an error and gave them one more chance, and that was all they needed. We were on top of them up to that point. Our girls played a heck of a good game and I’m very proud of them,” Seahawks head coach Mike Depew said.

Sealth held the Wildcats to only five hits through the first five innings before West Seattle came alive late, spraying 10 hits around the field in the final two innings of play.

The Seahawks finished with seven total hits, but were unable to get any when it counted most going 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th.

Sealth will have a chance for redemption on Friday when the teams face each other once again, this time on West Seattle home turf at Hiawatha.

“The girls are playing very well, we play them again on Friday so we’ll see how are girls react to that,” McCurdy said.
