Chief Sealth fans had a reason to celebrate friday night. It was homecoming, the band was awesome, and they crushed the visiting Franklin Quakers 47-6.
The Seahawks came into the game with a proven ability to put points on the board but have struggled to put 4 quarters of offense and defense together. Tonight, it all came together, and the Chief Sealth defense won the game for them in the first quarter.
On their first possession, the Seahawks relied on their steam engine Daron Camacho to get the offense moving. Camacho rushed the ball about 50 yards on his first three carries putting Chief Sealth on the Quaker 5 yard line. The Seahawks fumbled the ball away, but got it back two plays later when defensive back Antonio Chiles recovered a Franklin fumble in the end zone putting them up 7-0.
On Franklin's next possession, the Chief Sealth's defense pushed the Quakers backward on successive plays, including a punishing sack by 366 pound Isi Hiklis. Franklin punted, and Alloney Burris - thanks to his speed and some great blocking - returned it 60 yards for a score. Just like that, the Seahawks defense had created a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
The defense kept scrambling, and the Seahawks recovered a fumble again the next time the Quakers had the ball. That gave the Seahawks offense the ball on the Quaker 25. Camacho ran it down to the 5 (again), then C'Zhai Terrel took it into the end zone making it 20-0 at 6:36 in the first quarter.
There was some bad news - Camacho went out of the game with an injury, so the Seahawks had to continue without their star runner....but Chief Sealth had some offensive talent ready to pick up where Camacho left off. Senior QB Weston Reed led a beautiful drive that included a 35 yard run by Jalonzo Smallwood a perfect 25 yard pass from Reed to Smallwood again for the score.
Franklin knocked on the door at the end of the first half but couldn't convert and Chief Sealth went into the locker room/grassy hill with a 27-0 lead.
At half-time, the band was awesome. Those guys rock.
Franklin came out of half-time with energy, and ran back the kick-off 80 yards for a TD.
Chief Sealth, realizing it was homecoming, answered quickly. Reed called on running back Allen Delker and he delivered. After Delker posted runs of 25 and 9 yards down to the 5 yard line, Reed went back to Burris with a swing pass. Burris ran the ball over a defender and into the end zone and Sealth was up 33-6.
In the fourth quarter, Delker got his chance to visit the end-zone - twice. He capped off the night with a 5 yard rushing TD, then a 25 yard run for the final score, closing out the game with a 47-6 victory for the Seahawks.
Next week, Chief Sealth plays away at Ingraham at 7:00 on Friday.
