The White River Hornets made the trek from Buckley to West Seattle to face the Chief Sealth Seahawks at the Southwest Athletic Center on Friday night. Unfortunately the visitors proved too much for the hometown Seahawks to handle, winning 28 – 6. The score could have been much closer, but a 51-yard touchdown run by junior running back Daron Camacho (#11) was call back due to a holding penalty, senior wide receiver Alloney Burris (#5) caught a pass in the end-zone inches out of bounds, and a near-certain touchdown by senior wide receiver Ronnie Parker (#10) was thwarted when he was stripped of the ball on the 1-foot line.
Despite these heartbreaking moments the Seahawks played tough throughout the entire game.
The Hornets pulled out all the stops, using a halfback pass to sophomore wide receiver Ethan Clay (#9) to gain 40 yards, followed by a 12-yard touchdown run from junior tailback Ryan Richie (#22), and a PAT from junior Justin Tidwell (#2). That made it 7 – 0 Hornets at the end of the first quarter. After an interception by senior Dante Senoble Smith (#22), the Seahawks marched 76-yards down the field to score, highlighted by a long pass from senior quarterback Weston Reed (#12) senior wide receiver Alloney Burris (#5) and a touchdown run from junior running back Daron Camacho (#11). The PAT was unsuccessful, making the score 7 – 6.
The Hornets responded with a touchdown pass from sophomore Trevor Johnson (#7) to junior Justin Tidwell (#2). With a successful PAT the score was 14 – 6. The Hornets recovered an onside kick, but ran out of time at the end of the half. After halftime, the junior Justin Tidwell (#2) returned the kickoff to the Seahawks 2-yard line, and ran in a touchdown on the next play. After the PAT it was 21 – 6.
At the start of the fourth quarter another tricky halfback pass to sophomore Ethan Clay (#9) for a touchdown and the subsequent PAT made the score 28 – 6.
