Cut to the punch
On June 30 two people were robbed by a gang of thieves on 17th Ave. S.W. as they were walking. No description or details about the suspects were included in the police report.
Around 11 p.m. the two victims, a male and a female, were walking towards a home located on 17th Ave. S.W. when a group of male suspects approached them from behind. One of the suspects approached the victims with a pistol out and said “give me everything you’ve got”. The male victim complied and began handing over his wallet, cell phone, and a daypack.
One of the other suspects approached the female victim saying “I’m gonna take your purse”. The female victim then pushed the suspect away which began a short shoving match between the two of them. Ultimately the victim gave up her purse.
Before leaving the first suspect asked the male victim if they had any more stuff on them. When the victim said “no” the suspect sucker punched him in his right eye. The group of suspects then ran away towards S.W. Myrtle St. The female victim has said she could absolutely identify the suspects if she saw them again, the male victim was not as sure. The suspects remain at large.
Burglar in burgundy Toyota
On June 29 police received a call from a 26-year-old woman living on the 9000 block of 10 Ave. S.W. explaining that she come home to find her house had been broken into. She explained to the dispatchers that she had found drawers open and furniture moved around throughout home but found no one else inside.
An officer arrived shortly after 8 p.m. and inspected the home with the victim. She showed them where she believed the burglar had made entry; an open window with the screen removed in the bedroom. The officer also noted that the back door was open.
The victim told the officer that her wedding ring, engagement ring, a brass ring, a laptop, $15 worth in coins and 3 credit cards were missing. The engagement ring was a platinum band with five diamonds while the wedding band had 15 diamonds across the top. An estimated $7,865 dollars in items was stolen not including the cards. While tallying up the stolen items the victim informed the officer that a neighbor had told her that he had seen someone at the home earlier that day.
When the officer went to interview this neighbor he explained that at about 2 p.m. that day he had seen a newer model burgundy colored Toyota park in front of the victim’s home. He watched as the driver of the Toyota, a black female of average height with shoulder length hair, entered the home through the front door.
The woman went inside and then came out alone and drove off. It was strange to see this person who clearly didn’t live at that address walk in through the front door but at the time he thought very little of it and could not provide any further information.
