This year's the Huling Bowl trophy is firmly in the hands of West Seattle High School following a 29-6 victory over nearby rival Chief Sealth at the Southwest Athletic Complex Friday.
The Wildcats took the lead to stay early, as Gabe Gangon threw a touchdown pass to Nate Pryor from 12 yards out with 4:52 to play in the first quarter. A pass for a two-point conversion failed to leave the score at 6-0.
Mathias Fink then slipped a 36-yard field goal through the uprights with 2:30 to go in the opening quarter to make it 9-0 and added a 30-yard field goal at the 5:04 mark of the second quarter to make it 12-0.
Gangon completed a pass to Pryor with 9:42 to go on the third quarter clock for a 59-yard touchdown play. Fink booted the extra point and it was 19-0.
Carter Golgart struck on a 3-yard run at 10:25 left in the fourth quarter and Joe Merlino kicked the extra point to up the advantage to 26-0.
Merlino kicked a 25-yard field goal with 2:44 remaining in the game to make it 29-0, then Chief Sealth star Daron Camacho worked his magic to put the Seahawks on the scoreboard in the remaining time.
He zigged and zagged his way to a 53-yard gain, then five plays later he ran the ball in from the 5-yard line for a touchdown.
The PAT kick was blocked to leave the score at 29-6 with 15 seconds to play.
An onside kick then failed and went into the hands of West Seattle to seal the deal.
