Wake in fright
On Oct. 1 police responded to a complainant at an apartment complex on the 3200 block of S.W. Morgan St. concerning a home invasion robbery and assault. The victim is confined to a motorized wheelchair and in his report the responding officer noted that the victim seemed very intoxicated while officers spoke with him. While coming down to allow the officers into the building the victim split open a carpet burn wound on his elbow when he brushed past a corner too fast and was bleeding while giving his account.

According to the victim he had been having a get together with friends in his apartment earlier that night and the suspect was one of the acquaintances who was there. Shortly after midnight, after everyone had left and the victim was asleep, the suspect apparently got back inside the apartment through an unlocked patio door. The suspect went to the victim’s room and jumped onto the victim. While sitting on the victim’s chest the suspect began searching through pockets on his shirt and eventually found a debit card. After taking the card the suspect ran away using the front door and the building’s main entrance.

The suspect is described as a being a 19 to 21-year-old black male, standing 5’10 with a thin build, and wearing an orange hoodie with blue jeans. The victim explained that the suspect is one of a group of friends who are known to loiter daily outside of a storefront located on the 6300 block of 35th Ave. S.W. Police conducted an area check that night on 35th and found the store closed with no one milling around nearby.

The officers left the victim with a contact card. He did not require any medical assistance for his elbow injury. The suspect remains at large at time.
