Kennedy advances to face Bellevue on Friday

Kennedy Catholic outgunned Roosevelt, 48-29, Friday to reach the state level of Class 3A football action.
The Lancers boast a 9-0 overall record following the win at Highline Memorial Stadium, but now must face No. 1-ranked Bellevue in a 7 p.m. road game this coming Friday.
The perennially powerful Knights are 9-1 overall, with the only loss being to an out of state team in California.
Both Kennedy and Roosevelt showed their offensive prowess early in this past Friday's game.
The Roughriders from the Metro League scored first with 8:32 to play in the first quarter.
Dane Rogerson sliced through the middle for a 7-yard score and Michael Leshchyshyn kicked the extra point to make it a 7-0 game.
But Kennedy came right back and also scored on their first possession.
Shammah Finau did the honors from the 6-yard line at the 7:19 mark, after running for 38 yards two plays earlier.
Griffin Mathews booted the PAT and tied the score at 7-7.
Roosevelt answered on its next possession, with Rogerson capping off an 83-yard, 11-play drive with a 19-yard run. Rogerson started off going up the middle, then bounced off a lineman and veered left into the open.
Leshchyshyn's kick gave the Roughriders a 14-7 lead at the 3:36 mark of the first quarter.
Kennedy struck again on its next possession, however, knotting the score at 14-14 with 11:23 to play in the second quarter.
Keeanu Royster went up to snag an 18-yard pass from Benjamin Gaoteote at the goal line for the score.
The Lancers' defense finally held Roosevelt at bay on its next possession, with an 11-yard sack on fourth down and nine yards to go giving them the ball on their own 46.
Five plays later, Treshaun Harrison ran 23 yards for the touchdown and Mathews' kick was good to put the Lancers up, 21-14, with 7:13 remaining before halftime.
The Roughriders then marched to the JFK 31 before turning the ball over on downs on a 12-yard sack by Riley O'Neil.
Kennedy wound up with the ball on its 43 and three plays later Jared Thurber went airborne to catch a 30-yard pass in the end zone.
Mathews then upped the advantage to 28-14 with 1:59 left in the half, and that lead held through intermission.
The Lancers took the second half kickoff on their own 34 and went all the way to the Roosevelt 3-yard line before Mathews tried a 19-yard field goal on fourth down.
But Will Heckman blocked the kick for the Roughriders at the 5:14 mark of the third quarter.
Kennedy forced Roosevelt to punt on its next possession, however, then scored with 1:52 remaining in the quarter.
Royster caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Gaoteote, grabbing the ball and running into the end zone.
Mathews made his kick and suddenly the Lancers were in command, 35-14.
After forcing Roosevelt to punt again, Harrison scored on a 3-yard run three seconds into the fourth quarter. Mathews' kick was blocked to leave the lead at 41-14.
The Roughriders then scored on a 99-yard catch and run play with 8:36 remaining in the game for a spark of life.
Michael Buyco caught the ball deep up the middle and ran from just before midfield to the end zone alone. Rogerson ran the ball for a two-point conversion to make it a 41-22 game.
Kennedy ran the clock down on its next possession, going 54 yards on 11 plays for another touchdown.
Harrison walked in standing up from the 1-yard line for the score and Mathews made his kick to make it a 48-22 game with only 3:59 remaining.
Roosevelt got the last word in at 3:06 to play.
Mayan Chavez thew a 25-yard touchdown strike to Sam Cantrell on the left side and Leshchyshyn kicked the PAT to close the final margin to 48-29.
