Evergreen's Chacon runs to top track honors

Marques Chacon of Evergreen High School in White Center has been named as the Athlete of the Year on this year's Seamount All-League Boys Track and Field team.
Chacon earned the award as a senior after also making the Seamount first team in the 800-meter run, the 1,600 and the 3,200.
Chacon's coach Chuck Cushman, who also led the Tyee athletes on a combined team with Evergreen, was honored as the Coach of the Year.
This year Renton won the Team Sportsmanship award and Lindbergh took the team title.
Also making the first team from Evergreen was Ryan Thol in the triple jump and 110-meter high hurdles.
Foster had three athletes break onto the first team in Isaiah Ferrer in the 100-meter dash, Eric Teng in the discus and Zane Jacobson in the javelin.
Kennedy's 400-meter relay team of Ben Xu, Kendell Oakes, EJ Chrisanto and Chris Petralia also earned a first team position.
Petralia also made the second team in the 100 and 200, and Teng took second team positions in the javelin and shot put.
Thol made the second team in the 300 hurdles and Kevin Lee of Foster was named to the second team in the long jump.
Chacon's twin brother Matt earned honorable mention in the 1,600 and Thol earned honorable mention in the 100 as Ferrer was the honorable mention long jumper.
Matt Chacon, Savelio Makasini, Marques Chacon and Thol made honorable mention in the 1,600-meter relay and Lincoln Marino of Kennedy made honorable mention in the 3,200-meter run and high jump.
Ty Shanklin of Highline and Robert Miller of Kennedy earned honorable mention in the high jump as well.
Girls track and field
Hazen dominated on the girls side this year, taking the league title as well as the vast majority of first team positions.
The Highlanders also had Shannon Rance named as the Coach of the Year.
The Athlete of the Year award went to Aajua Brooks of Lindbergh and Renton won the Team Sportsmanship award.
Only two local athletes broke onto the first team in Kennedy's Alyssa Hoffman in the 100 hurdles and Evergreen's Luana Tupa in the discus.
Ariells Garnett of Kennedy made the second team in both the 100 and 200 and Shakila Omar of Foster earned the second team award in the 400.
Gabrielle Patten of Kennedy was second team in the 300 hurdles and teammate Ashley Galando made the second team in the javelin.
Evergreen's Tupa was second team in the shot put and Foster's Kassandra Esparza earned second team in the discus.
The Highline foursome of Jessica Bedolla, Yesenia Bedolla, Anita Chung and Natasha Maharaj were the second team 1,600-meter relay.
Foster's Omar earned honorable mention in the 100 and 200, while teammate Aolani Medrano made honorable mention in the long jump and pole vault and teammate Desiree Terrell earned honorable mention in the shot put.
Alyssa Hoffman of Kennedy earned honorable mention in the 300 hurdles and also ran on the honorable mention 400-meter relay with teammates Emily Hargett, Allison Zubeck and Patten.
Zubeck was an honorable mention choice in the 100 hurdles and the Kennedy 1,600-meter relay also made honorable mention with Karianne Bolma, Sandy Lukes, Lilly Marino and Patten.
