Thief makes getaway on stolen bicycle
A burglary was reported on the 2200 block of California Avenue S.W. around 1:30 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 6. The caller said a man with long, dark hair wearing a checkered flannel shirt and long pants broke into a shop and stole a bicycle. Staff in the store said the man had ridden east through a parking lot and then they lost sight of him. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. The store’s surveillance system did not work so there was no footage of the burglary.
Burglars break and enter for postal packages
Officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of 41st Avenue S.W. for a call about a burglary around 2:20 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 6. The property manager said that around 3:30 a.m. on the previous day, three male suspects had gained entry to the lobby of the apartment building and stolen two postal packages. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras. Officers attempted to call the victim of one stolen package but were unable to reach him.
Fighting in the street on California Ave.
Police were dispatched to an assault in the area of California Avenue S.W. and S.W Alaska St. around 10:50 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 2. Officers searched for a few minutes before finding the victim, who said he had been out with friends when a man challenged them to a fight. The victim had won the fight, but then the other man hit him in the head with a rock. The Seattle Fire Department came to treat the two minor lacerations on the top of his head. Police believed that the man who made the call was intoxicated and he kept angrily mentioning how he was going to find the other man and hurt him. Police could not find the suspect in the area.
Assault at Cottage Grove Apartments
A report of an assault was made at 11:48 a.m. on Tues., Aug. 30 at the 5400 block of Delridge Way S.W. Police found the victim in the front lobby of the Cottage Grove Apartments, with a bandage covering the area below her left eye. The victim said that the suspect was an acquaintance, who became angry when she told him she did not want to be his girlfriend. He swung a bag that contained two beer cans at her face and then left. Staff in the building called 911 and showed police video footage of the assault. The victim said she did not need medical attention. The suspect, who appeared intoxicated, was arrested.
