Burglary of construction site on 20th Avenue S.W.

Police received a report of a burglary to a construction site located on the 9000 block of 20th Avenue S.W. around 7 a.m. on Mon., Jan. 16. The victim said he came to work at 5:30 a.m. and saw the garage gate was open. The suspect cut a fence and crawled into the g garage, leaving with several tools. The victim said he would follow up after he assessed which items were missing.

Collecting money gets sticky

Around 4 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 16, officers received a call for an assault near the intersection of Delridge Way S.W. and Andover Street. The caller reported going to a friend’s house to pick up $1,500 she was owed. When she arrived, her male friend stepped out of the driver door of a black Mercedes sedan, took an assault rifle out of the trunk and told her to get away and never come back. He pushed her down onto the ground. The victim did not want to purse charges and declined medical attention for scratches from the fall. Officers advised her to have a civil standby if she attempted to collect the money again – or to go through civil court instead.

Burglars leave with nothing but a door stopper

A woman returned to her home located on the 8200 block of Northrop Place S.W. around 5 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 16 to find her front door damaged. Wood was broken around the deadbolt, but she was not certain if anyone had entered the home. Officers arrived and conducted a building search. Once they were certain that no one was inside, the woman searched the house, checking for stolen items. The only thing missing was a white, metal door stopper that had been used on the back door of the home. Police were able to locate one fingerprint and entered it into evidence.

Robbery at store on S.W. Avalon Way

A clerk at a store located on the 3200 block of S.W. Avalon Way was mopping the floors around 2:50 a.m. on Mon., Jan. 16, when two suspects entered. One man was 5’6” with a slim build and the other was 6’3” and heavy set. Both were wearing all black and gloves, with red bandanas covering their faces. The larger man told the victim to give him the balance in the register. The suspects took about $20,000 in cash. The employee said they may have taken other items from the store as well. He tried to press the panic button under the counter but it did not work. He called 911 after the suspects left the store.

Employee thwarts robbers

Officers received a report of a robbery around 4:30 a.m. on Mon., Jan. 16. They arrived on the scene on the 9000 block of Delridge Way S.W., and the victim said he was working when two masked suspects walked up. He used a remote locking controller to secure the front doors. When the robbers realized they could not push the door open, one suspect pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the victim, who ran to the back and hid. After a few moments, the suspects left. The victim was unable to describe the suspects or access the video surveillance footage.
