Highland Park Way SW will remain closed today according to SDOT and is expected to reopen by late afternoon Friday for the PM commute.
SDOT crews have removed 90% of the material that came down from the hillside on to the roadway, about 2400 tons.
Crews will remove the remaining material tomorrow and will place approximately 50 concrete Ecology blocks (6’ long x 2’ wide x 2’ high) along the western edge of Highland Park Way SW to buttress the hillside.

SDOT said via Twitter "Highland Park Way SW will remain closed through Thursday btw SW Holden St & W Marginal Way SW due to a landslide. Plz use alternate routes.
Power that was knocked out in the area was largely restored earlier with only a few left with no electricity on Wednesday afternoon.

A mudslide, deemed "significant" by SDOT that took place around 5 am on Wednesday morning blocked traffic on Highland Park Way SW and knocked out power for thousands in the area. West Seattle Herald news partner Q13 Fox News reported that "380 customers didn’t have power as of 6:30 a.m. As many as 2,000 customers were without power earlier in the morning.
Transportation officials closed Highland Park Way SW in the area and advised drivers to avoid the area altogether."
City light crews were on the case and power should be restored soon.
