We all know that quality living incorporates the most basic things in life: healthy environment, affordable housing, opportunities for art and education for youth.
Which is exactly what the Delridge Neighborhood Development Association (DNDA) celebrates and preserves every day.
On Friday evening, the DNDA hosted a festive fundraiser, “Destination Delridge 2017” to support its work. The event, held at the Metropolist in SoDo, raised over $25,000 for the organization.
“I’m trilled to stand up here tonight and represent our organization,” the executive director of DNDA, David Bestock said to the 200 guests. “At DNDA, we work towards a vision of a vibrant and thriving Delridge.”
Bestock talked about the housing projects and cultural opportunities the organization makes possible.
“It continues to be a place where we celebrate diversity, inclusion and education,” he said.
In 2016, the organization hosted diversity cultural events, promoted local social justice and strengthened community partnerships. It helped the city to persevere parks as public land, build teaching gardens, and provide experimental environmental education for youth.
“Last year was a huge year for us,” Bestock stated.
Additionally this past year, DNDA merged with the Nature Consortium, which was first founded over 19 years ago. The consortium connects residents with art and nature explorations and opportunities.
“As DNDA continues to grows, it will continue to make a real and tangible impact on the local community,” he said. "Our momentum at DNDA is very strong. Thank you for helping us with our work.”
The event featured young artists who were nurtured through the DNDA's youth programs. These included poet Carlynn Newhouse, singer/songwriter Monica Elenes and the AU Dance Collective. (Check out videos of the performances on our Twitter page.)
Among those attending, was Seattle Mayor, Ed Murray.
